How do you know a great song? A great song in my opinion combines creative lyrics, instrumental combinations and musical chords that are out of the ordinary, but somehow make you sing, hum or tap your hand or foot along. I judge a great song by if it can bring me to tears, or if it can give me a chill that for a brief moment feels like electricty all over your body...or at times if it helps me to actually think about the consquences of an action before simply acting upon an emotion. A good song can completely remove you from a situation, provide you with a haven or shelter from the world or help you to better express emotions inside of you that you weren't quite sure you could express. Sometimes a song just seems to convey an emotion better than any words or thougths you could create. A great song is one you can play or hear over and over until everyone else gets completely sick of hearing it except for you.


Clint Black sums it up pretty well in one of his songs:
Ain't it funny how a melody can bring back a memory, Take you to another place in time, completely change your state of mind.
